The Austin uses Andre Hartford friction-style dampers front and rear for ride control. They were state of the art at the time and their design is quite complex. Fortunately the ones on this car are complete, however they will require a complete restoration in order to perform as they should. I dismantled the dampers and de-rusted the major components using my home built electrolysis rust removal tank. The tank was built using an old battery charger, a 5 gallon bucket, some scrap romex, and quite a few sacrificial anchor bolts. The units will get new spring washers and face dials.
